Plus-Size Models Start To See Equal Treatment At NYFW, Finally

Well, it’s that time of year again — the fashion flock starts swigging juice in hopes of “detoxing” before days of Champagne and mini cupcakes, catwalk strutters run around NYC like a tower of baby giraffes (yes, a group of giraffes is called a tower), and, of course, the annual snowstorm rolls in to change everyone’s footwear game. That’s right, it’s Fashion Week. Or, it will be officially on Thursday.

But, something feels different this season; a change is in the air, and we think we like where it’s heading. IMG recently signed five fabulous plus-size models, and for once, they’re not segregated to their own “plus-only” section. Ashley Graham, Marquita Pring, Danielle Redman, Julie Henderson, and Inga Eiriksdottir are now represented alongside notable names like Alek Wek, Chanel Iman, Gisele Bündchen, and Kate Upton.

While including them on the same board is a step in the right direction, the real leap came with the inclusion of their promotion within IMG’s show package. This means they have the same opportunity to sashay down the runway as a model who may be a bit thinner. We can only hope there are designers who are just as visionary as IMG and willing to take a chance to make fashion history. Get a glimpse at some of the new faces below.
